Philip M Smith

California born Philip M.Smith is an artist and craftsman. Since 1979,he has been the owner operator of the Ship‘s Carpenter,a decorative arts and fine woodwork ing studio specializing in custom furniture and marineinteriors.

 

Locally, Philip has devoted many years to creation and installation of public art including the Rotary Club Internat onal Centennial Park‘s “Planet Walk“, Hilltop Parkin Signal Hill. S hadows on the Sidewalk of the Belmont Shore parking meters and the “fish“in the Aquarium of the  Pacific parkinglot. Hislatest work is the Gerda Seifer Holocaust Memor al located at the Alpert Jewish Community Center.

 

Philip began enameling in 2004. His work has been commissioned by Kaiser Memorial Hospitals in Phoenix and multiplelocations in the LA area. His largest works are 2 curved panels installed in the Republic Place building in Washington DC

 

Philip’s work has been featured in shows at the Long Beach Museum of Art, theIrvine Fine Arts Center, Long Beach Playhouse.Creative Arts Group of Sierra Madre and the Alpert Jewish Community Center and others.

Currently, Philip is working on a large private commission. Come and see the studio in action.
