Melinda Rasch

I am a mixed media artist, primarily focused on book-making and found-object sculptures using natural and salvaged materials, as well as eco-dyes and hand-made paint. I look beyond the expected use of everyday, and usually discarded items, where ideas, symbols, techniques, color and textures are transformed into a new concept. The world contains a wealth of creative materials for intersection into the art world in non-traditional ways. I strive to incorporate these elements into my art, forming its final structure. I leave the expected narrative behind in favor of a new “visual narrative.”

As concern for the environment and the importance of conserving resources grows, it is imperative to consider using art supplies that are already present or that come from natural and renewable sources. Consequently, a more responsible, sustainable and affordable form of art-making emerges.
