I have been photographing urban ruins for many years, first with black & white film, making prints in my darkroom, and now with a digital camera. I turn the color files into black & white and alter them in various ways in PhotoShop. I prefer black & white images because I believe that they are the most powerful kind of photographic statement. Sometimes I include a pop of color to enhance the picture.
I am attracted to ruined buildings and artifacts because of their variegated texture, unusual appearance, and nostalgic quality. I want to celebrate the past in the present and bring fresh ways of looking at abandoned structures to the viewer. I believe that ruins have intrinsic beauty that is unique to them.
