Wendy Hultquist

Wendy Hultquist – 2434 Daisy Avenue

Wendy is a native of Great Britain and also lived in France before coming to US.  She was drawn to art from childhood but was steered towards a more “academic” path instead.  She continued experimenting with various media as a hobby while raising a family and pursuing a career as a registered nurse.  Everything changed when she moved to California in 1990 and found the brilliant light an invitation to oil painting which has since become her passion.  She became aware of the works of the Southern California Impressionists and, captivated by their painting style, explored the areas they frequented.  She seeks to emulate their vision in a landscape that continues to dramatically change.

Principally a self-taught artist, Wendy has had assistance in refining her skills from several mentors.  They include Sheila Harrity, Craig Antrim, Ron Libbrecht, and Mario Mirkovic.  She has also attended workshops by Ray Roberts, Ken Backhaus, John Budicin, Frank Serrano, Joseph Mendez, Daniel Green and others.

Now a resident of Long Beach, Wendy is a member of Long Beach Arts, the Lakewood Artist’s Guild, and an Artist Member of the California Art Club and has exhibited work with all groups.  She has had solo exhibitions at Studio 343, the Long Beach Main Library, the offices of Senator Alan Lowenthal, and the Landmark Building in Long Beach.  Her paintings hang in the collection of Magnetic Component Engineering in Torrance in addition to several private collections.
